Yodhax field guide
Get ready for your next round
A practical guide to the Yodhax browser player: check your controls, understand what is saved, and work through common problems without losing time to guesswork.
Your first launch
Open the game library and choose a title to read its description. The category filter helps narrow the list; search matches titles and genres. The game details page links to the player, where Start game begins loading. You can browse and play without creating an account.
The keyboard maps to an NES controller: arrow keys for directions, X for A, Z for B, Enter for Start, and Shift for Select. A and B are controller labels, not promises about an action: a platformer may use A to jump, while another game assigns it differently. Look at the title screen and in-game instructions when learning a new game.
Use the toolbar Pause button for a break and Resume to continue. Restart resets the running game, so use it only when you intend to begin again. Fullscreen changes the view; it does not save or restart your session.
Check your keyboard
Focus the panel below, then try the arrow keys, X, Z, Enter and Shift. Hold a direction and an action together to check that your keyboard registers both. This tool checks browser input; it does not run a game.
0 of 8 controls checked. Tab moves out of this panel.
Find the symptom, then try one change
Change one thing at a time so you can tell what helped. Start with the matching symptom below before reloading, because reloading ends your current session.
The title screen is waiting
Start game loads the player. Once the game's own title screen appears, press Enter or the on-screen Start button. These are two separate steps. If a game offers a mode menu, use the direction controls to choose a single-player mode before pressing Start.
Keys scroll the page or do nothing
Click or tap the game canvas to return focus after using the header, a search field, or the toolbar. Check X and Z in the keyboard panel above. If a single key works but a combination does not, try a different keyboard; some keyboards cannot register certain combinations simultaneously.
A game does not finish loading
The first launch downloads the player and game data. Wait for it to complete on a stable connection. If the player shows an error, use its retry action. If the problem repeats, reload once and try another game to distinguish a title-specific failure from a connection problem. Browser or network restrictions on external game assets can also prevent launch.
Audio is silent or breaks up
Start the game with a click or tap, then check the device volume and whether the browser tab is muted. If sound and animation both stutter, close other busy tabs and pause background downloads. Repeatedly pressing Start will not make the download or emulation faster.
Touch controls feel cramped
Rotate your phone to landscape if that gives you a more comfortable view. The direction pad and A/B buttons sit below the screen so your thumbs do not cover the action. Keep a finger held for movement and lift it to release. On a narrow screen you may need to scroll to see the controls before starting.
Fullscreen is unavailable
Use the toolbar's fullscreen button after launch. Support depends on the browser and device; if it is unavailable, continue in the normal player. On desktop, Escape usually leaves fullscreen. Pausing before changing the view gives you time to settle your hands again.
Know what your session keeps
Yodhax does not currently provide cloud saves, save-state downloads, account-linked scores, or multiplayer matchmaking. Signing in does not preserve a game in progress. Leaving the player, refreshing, closing the tab, or restarting can end the run. A game may have its own password or continue system; that is separate from your Yodhax account.
Genre labels describe the original game. A co-op label does not mean that online co-op or a second controller setup is available in this player. The on-screen controls operate player one.
Help us reproduce a problem
When reporting a problem, include the game title, device, browser, whether you used keyboard or touch, and the last action before it failed. For example: “Mario reaches the title screen on my phone, but tapping Start does nothing.” Please leave passwords and verification codes out of reports.
