PLAY NOTE
Contra is a game about the whole screen
How projectile lanes, enemy entrances, and weapon choices reward attention beyond the character sprite.

Your soldier is not the only focus
Watching only the player character makes Contra feel impossibly fast. Threats often begin at the edges, and projectiles travel through lanes that remain dangerous for a moment. Widening your attention gives you time to move before the bullet reaches your immediate space.
Movement creates geometry
Jumping is not simply an escape button. It changes the line between your weapon and a target while carrying you through other lines of fire. A safe jump needs a landing area. Before leaving the ground, glance at where enemies are entering and whether a projectile will occupy that landing point.
Upgrades change decisions
A wider or faster weapon can reduce the need for exact aim, but it can also encourage careless forward movement. Use an upgrade to control space rather than to abandon caution. Clearing an entrance before advancing is often safer than firing continuously while running into new threats.
Learn one crowded moment
Pick the first section that repeatedly ends a run and study only that sequence. Identify the earliest enemy you can remove and the position that leaves the most escape routes. Contra becomes more manageable when a crowded screen is treated as several ordered events.
