PLAY NOTE
Commando and the pressure to keep moving
The tactical tension between advancing up the battlefield, rescuing prisoners, and avoiding a growing crossfire.
· 5 min
The battlefield does not wait
Commando pushes upward while enemies arrive from several directions. Staying in one place can feel safe for a second, but it allows more threats to occupy the screen. Progress is defensive: moving forward clears old entrances and changes the angles enemies must use.
Rifle and grenade solve different shapes
The rifle handles moving targets along a line. Grenades reach fixed positions and groups but are limited. Throwing one at every soldier wastes the tool that can remove a bunker or crowded obstacle before it controls the route.
Use the width of the screen
Advancing straight up the center exposes both sides. A diagonal path can reduce the number of active angles, but hugging an edge also limits escape options. Shift sides when the current lane fills rather than waiting until the character is trapped.
Rescue with a route out
A prisoner or bonus can pull attention into a dangerous pocket. Before moving toward it, identify where you will go afterward. The rescue is only useful if the approach leaves enough space to continue advancing.
